File this under people and places I didn’t expect to find myself. Euro-Karaoke, London with Fish from Condor Cycles (left) and Keith from Tour de Ville (right).

Mainly a bike-biz trip, but I’ve managed to see some touristy sights as well.

The collection of bikes I actually ride with some regularity.
Bianchi Pista Concept w/ reflective ELVS rims; Bianchi Auto-Milano singlespeed coaster brake cargo bike; Pake track polo bike; Vivalo NJS keirin; Surly Pacer w/ Shimano 10sp 105; Trek Prototype Cross freak bike, Surly Crosscheck 2-speed fixed “touring”/”mountain” with S+S couplings; Dean 29/26 custom singlespeed; Gary Fisher 29″ singlespeed.
We all have our vices, mine is the bicycle. While this may seem excessive, especially coupled with the dozen or so other incomplete or otherwise oddball bikes throughout the house, it represents some 15 years of accumulated and traded-up parts. By this point I’ve owned a number of bicycles.
In rough order of ownership, a sort of complete list:
- Giant Yukon (’93 or so, upgraded to Specialized Futureshok suspension fork that had 1.75″ travel and inflated with a basketball needle syringe, beginning of the end)
- Gary Fisher Aquila
- Diamondback 24″ BMX crusier
- Spooky Darkside (Easton Ultralite, stupid light at ~3lbs for the frame, around ‘97)
- Eastern Woods Research modified trials bikes (Rumored to be EWR #1, the original, ‘98)
- Mongoose/AMP B3 (relatively early lightweight full suspension. Around 1998.)
- 1×1 Rat Ride (pre-Surly Surly, around ‘98)
- Surly Crosscheck (’99 still have this bike, pictured above. Longest ownership to date.)
- Monty 231 X-Lite (26″ stock trials bike, square downtube, around 19lbs complete in ‘99-00 when I was competing frequently)
- Monty 221 X-Lite (20″modified trials bike, 17.5lbs during competition days)
- Brisa B26 (26″ stock trials bike, ‘01)
- Eastern Woods Research E-Motion (26″ xc bike, had Ted Wojcik weld disc mount on it)
- Surly Instigator
- Monty 221 X-Lite (I bought another one later, earlier version thought w/ square downtube, didn’t get back into trials)
- Bianchi SISS (singlespeed mountain bike, prone to breakage, dented toptube in crash and sold for $50)
- Surly 1×1 (Sold the original Rat Ride, bought identical 1×1 with disc mounts)
- Bianchi PUSS (Easton Ultralite singlespeed race bike, hot pink, totally awesome)
- IRO Jamie Roy
- IRO Mark V Pro (never fit right, 59cm toptubes are too long for me)
- Surly Pacer
- Vivalo Keirin (super rare 58cm keirin frame)
- Dean Colonel Singlespeed (custom to me, modified to 29×26, lovely)
- Trek Weirdo 90’s Full Suspension (traded for Rig frameset shortly after purchase)
- Gary Fisher Rig
- Pake track
- Trek Prototype Cross (via Trek friends, ancient prototype that never made production)
- Bianchi Pista Concept
- Kona Ute long bike
- Bianchi Auto-Milano (scratch and dent frameset with cheap 26″ coaster-brake wheels)
Oddball Bikes:
- Swingbike (90’s era)
- Schwinn F1 bike (strange pseudo-bmx parking lot sport people tried to push)
- Schwinn Balloon Tire Crusier (’40’s-50s era, 2-speed Bendix hub, all original down to the hub polishers)
- Mongoose 50th Anniversary Little 500 bike
- Zephyr 24″ unicycle (can’t ride it)
